Scientific and Theoretical Knowledge

Physical education teacher candidates know and apply discipline-specific scientific and theoretical concepts critical to the development of physically educated individuals.

Element 1.3: Describe and apply motor development theory and principles related to skillful movement, physical activity, and fitness.

Artifact: EXS 397 Myocardial lab

Date: Fall 2011

Reflection:  The purpose of this lab was to measure the heart rate and blood pressure response to static and dynamic exercise.  After we related the changes to how much stress was taken upon the heart.  Results showed that myocardial consumption is highly correlated to the product of heart rate and systolic blood pressure.  As a educator working with students to be physically active it is important to have the knowledge of what happens to muscles and blood flow during exercise, as opposed to rest.

Element 1.5: Analyze and correct critical elements of motor skills and performance concepts.

Artifact: Lab 4 (PED 201)

Date: Spring 2010

Reflection:  Throughout the beginning of this lab I was given the opportunity to watch and observe students from Saint Mary’s Elementary school as they performed different motor skills that were shown through in different games.  The result of the lab showed that I could relate, show, and give positive feedback on the results I observed.  This is very important when it comes to teaching as it will be important to help teach and correct any students that may need assistance by providing positive reinforcement throughout my career.
